BetterSnapTool App Reviews

Perfect!

I was so excited about split-view on El Capitan until I realized it wasn’t compatible with my version of Word. Because of that, I’ve never been able to utilize it. I’m a grad student and really like to have my PDF readings on one side of the screen and my Word doc for note-taking on the other. For the longest time I was just adjusting the sizes manually until they were sort of half and half, but that got tedious. I’m so glad I decided to download this app after Googling “why does Word not support split-screen” for the thousandth time out of frustration. Thank you kind stranger on Reddit who posted about this app and how great it was!

Most used app on my computer

It does work great right out of the box, but if you invest a few minutes to learn about everything it can do you won’t be sorry. Custom snap areas for certain programs and/or workflows, keyboard shortcuts to quickly move the window to the next monitor (& back), etc. ** Some Comments on Other Comments ** 1 - Multi-monitor support is great, even when all monitors are different resolutions (e.g. 5K & 1080 etc.). 2 - JoshuaD80 claims that he cant make Chrome take up 2/3rds of his monitor with Slack on the other 1/3rd. He hasn’t watched the tutorial video because it is very easy to set this up with hotkeys and/or custom snap zones. The software doesn’t come (uselessly) pre-programmed with all the thousands of possible screen combinations that anyone could want. Just make your window the size, shape, and location you want, then create a new hotkey and custom zone to drag it to that will return it to that place. You can even limit it to only working for a particular program (e.g. Chrome, but not Safari).

fantastic

clearly the missing feature in osX. The split view in El Capitan is “ok” but super over complicated. The split view in El Capitan creates another desktop with 2 windows side by side, again, not bad if you have only 2 windows to work with….but overcomplicated. Kreat Job with this app, kudos to the programmers, productivity and usability increased!!

Super Cool!!!!

This app is super-easy to use, and lots of fun! I especially like the custom keyboard shortcuts that position windows wherever you like. = ^ )

Life Saver

coming from PC to mac, my biggest complaint was the lack of a good snapping functionality. I only use a portion of what this app can do and I’m extremely pleased with it.

Not a former Windows user, and I find this useless

I see that most of the rave reviews for this program were written by converts from Windows to Mac. I used Windows for a few years in the 90s (during the Sculley years), but not since then. I tried this program for a few weeks but then turned it off. It does not fill any need that I can detect. I do a lot of window management, too. I have 4 desktops, for different purposes, and I frequently move between them. And I frequently “move and resize” windows. But I do it all using native Mac methods. As far as I could tell, BetterSnap mainly adds the ability to have standardized window sizes, such as one-half screen, and standardized locations, such as lower right corner. But I’m quite able to do the equivalent using the mouse. Clearly, former Windows users approach the world differently. IDK if they know something I don’t, or if they are just locked in to an old / obsolete way to do things. Mac users: don’t waste your money.

Snaps, keyboard shortcuts, true maximize, amazing

It does so much. It’s definitely worth the money. I’m using it on OS X El Capitan. It’s beautiful. And it’s really customizable. I like getting to choose my own keyboard shortcuts and tweak the appearance of the animation, etc.

This tool actually makes OS X semi productive

Just moved from Windows to OSX and this tool actually makes OSX semi productive. I can finally easily and quickly maximize windows and place two windows side by side relatively quickly. The only Windows 10 feature I am missing (And only a little bit) would be if I could invoke Mission Control to pick a window on the other side when I want to split my view. Basically when I send a window to the left show mission control and the window I pick would then be sent to the right.

Fixes My Needs for the Snap Feature from Windows 10

Works really well with a lot of applications. The App store and ITunes and Spotify don’t fit perfectly within some of the snap windows. However, it works very well. Best app. 10 out of 10. Would buy again.

Ought to be Integrated

So elemental and de rigueur nowadays is this feature in Linux & Windows, it’s just a market survey that one pays real cash for— running it as an option. It ought to be integrated. It’s that good. ’T would be nice if it were free, but the $1.99 I can cope with as I sip my homemade iced coffee and gaze at the coffee place outside my lanai. No miser. I just love saving the buck here - buck there. So I can blow it on my super awesome old school Mac Pro from 2012. Recent convert from the win10, win8, win7 fallout community. Loving Life Here. Mahalo for another awesome product.

Very Well Done

I think Apple dropped the ball a bit with the whole split screen thing in El Capitan. This app. This is what they should have done. Very useful, intuitive, and well polished. Thanks!

Awesome.

Really great progarm. Well made, powerful, very useful. Not sure why Apple et. al. have not implemented by default.

Best App on my Mac

The measure of a great app is its ability to integrate into your workflow and becoming part of the OS requiring no thought on the user’s part. It is only when I use my wife’s Mac (which doesn’t have BetterSnapTool), that I am reminded on how much I use it without even knowing it. This app is flawless—it is by far the best app on my machine when it comes to managing my screens (works great even using 2 monitors). I’ve had it for a number of years and it has been by far the best $3 I’ve ever spent.

Works Great

I tried the El Capitan version of snapping, and to be fair, there is a lot going on in the Finder so having a trigger like clicking and holding the green dot is maybe a good way to do it under those conditions, as it tells Mac OS not to trigger other behaviors, like Spaces or Mission Control. I have had BetterSnapTool all of 2 minutes, and it’s going to help me out because, truth be told, I am used to the way Winders does it and it’s nice to carry that over. Aero snap is a useful feature and this is one implementation of it Apple should seriously look at.

dont force use of app store

apple store stucks dont force users to use.

Works as advertised but prefer Moom

This app does just what the developer says it will. I will play with it some more, but thus far I find Moom much more intuitive, much simpler to use. It’s cheap enough, though, that I can’t complain. And I’ll have fun playing around a bit more with it.

Just Amazing

I didn’t know what I was missing before I started using this tool. My windows used to just overlap and get scattered everywhere. I’d end up having two or three workspaces on each of my two external monitors just to deal with all the open windows. Since switching to a single external Thunderbolt monitor and installing this app, I’ve created tons of custom window snap areas and now only need two workspaces on my single external monitor. Everything stays tidy and when I realize I need a new custom window snap area, I can quickly generate it for the current project and for future use. I never thought I could get so excited about a windows snapping tool, except that it really has decluttered and simplified my workflow.

still the best

This app still the best window manage tool in the market.

FANTASTIC!!

Been using for a over a year now on multiple computers/laptops & COULD NOT LIVE WITHOUT. One of my MUST HAVE apps. Don’t hesitate to purchase - well worth it!

Totally worth it, even with El Capitan

I liked the full-screen split-screen feature in El Capitan, so I was a bit skeptical about paying for another window management app. But this is totally worth it! The ability to create keyboard shortcuts and custom snap areas is just brilliant! I can get windows side-by-side in custom configurations super fast. The built-in feature in El Cap is still useful, but I’ll be using this 99% of the time for my window management. Thanks for a great app!
